Indigenous Community Planner

R. Radloff & Associates Inc., a leading Civil Engineering firm, has an immediate opening for an Indigenous Community Planner to join our Prince George, BC office. Reporting to the Planning Manager, the Indigenous Community Planner will support the needs of Indigenous communities in areas such as community planning, land use planning, Indigenous consultation and engagement, and overall community involvement.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of First Nation communities in the region and relevant local government initiatives. Strong diplomacy and communication skills are essential for effective collaboration with First Nation communities and elected officials. A thorough knowledge of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act is also required.

 

Qualifications

  • A degree in planning, geography, or in a related discipline with courses in First Nations and Indigenous studies, and two years of experience in Indigenous relations, with an emphasis on related local government initiatives.
     
  • In-depth knowledge of one or more specializations, such as economic development, land-use, community plan, consultation, First Nation, transportation planning, or environmental planning.
     
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet applications, econometric or transportation modeling, database management, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, GIS or mapping software.
     
  • Sound knowledge of Provincial statutes and regulations and must acquire a sound knowledge of planning legislation and local geography.
     
  • Knowledge of or experience in community remediation and redevelopment, and knowledge of relevant Provincial programs.
     
  • Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 5

 

Responsibilities

  • Effective communication and social skills, including the ability to express thoughts and ideas clearly, and converse with a wide range of people including Indigenous peoples, technical consultants, elected officials, senior staff, line staff and the general public to provide advice, make recommendations and make effective presentations.
     
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with consultants, contractors, stakeholders, senior staff, co-workers, team members, elected officials, other government agencies, First Nations, advisory bodies, and the public.
     
  • Exhibit the ability to work both independently and within a busy, high-performing team
    Willingness to work in the field in a variety of weather conditions.
     
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive matters with discretion and integrity.
